Production of J.A. vodka Baczewski was started in Lviv in 1782. The raw material for its production was potato. During World War II, the Lviv factory was destroyed. In 1956, the heirs of the Baczewski family regained trademark rights. Together with Eduard Gessler, they resumed production based on recipes retained in the Vienna branch of Altvater Gessler-J.A. Baczewski.
